Take a Veteran to Dinner Night on Sunday, October 14th offers anyone who would like to show their appreciation to our servicemen and women (active and retired) the chance to treat those very dedicated people to dinner. That is, a appreciative host buys two tickets: one for himself/herself and one for a veteran. The whole idea is that hosts and sponsors fund the evening so that veterans and their partners have a nice evening out at no cost and some good company too. Many hosts invite a family member, a friend or a neighbour to join them but we also match up hosts and veterans who meet for the first time at Tudor Hall.
There are 10000+ active and retired service personnel living in the National Capital Region and we do encourage them to get in touch with us to claim a free ticket so that is why the host-vet matching and table sponsorships are key to making the event a success. The tickets are $75 each and the event is strictly cost recovery.
For the purpose of this event we are borrowing the definition of a veteran from the HMCS Haida Newsletter which reads as follows:
“A Veteran, whether active duty, retired or reserve, is someone who, at some point in his/her life, wrote a blank cheque made payable to “The Canadian Government” for an amount of “Up to and including one’s life”. — author unknown
